GENDER DYSPHORIA

Ramin Entry #20

What do I do when I’ve reached the deepest abyss of my self-healing journey? A journey diving through dark oceans of needles and shards of broken glass, of fire and bard wires, of extreme unimaginable emotional pain and torments, of lies and deceits, of extreme anger and hatred, of deep depression and suicides.

Juxtaposed at the bottom of this ocean lies a clear stream of crystal blue water, glistening with stillness so soft and tender, so gentle and arousing, so blissful and serene; a paradise almost, peaceful and tranquil. An upside-down world of surrealism it seems to feel, unreal and magical, breathtaking and mesmerizing.

A nightmare of a life conquered; hopes restored; dreams renewed; potentials blossomed…life shines beautifully again. Shame and guilt overcome, stigmas shattered; preconceptions vanished; judgments overruled; acceptance established. Excitement stirred; reborn of Self; confidence assured; a new life initiated; gratefulness overflowed

Awareness is key, for it is one of the most powerful and grounding tools we can equip ourselves with. It helps us be more self-aware as we develop more humility, compassion, empathy, and love for ourselves and others. Please be kind to yourself and others. God bless

gender dysphoria (GD), also known as gender identity disorder (GID), formal diagnosis given by mental health professionals to people who experience distress because of a significant incongruence between the gender with which they personally identify and the gender with which they were born.

As outlined in DSM-5, a GD diagnosis is given when there is a strong and persistent alternate-gender identification and a sustained discomfort with one’s assigned sex or a sense of inappropriateness in the gender role of that sex. The diagnostic text lists specific examples of those criteria as they may manifest in children, adolescents, and adults. The criteria also disallow a diagnosis if an intersex condition is present. The alternate-gender identification or behaviours must also be accompanied by significant distress and impairment

Gender dysphoria is the feeling of discomfort or distress that might occur in people whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth or sex-related physical characteristics

The term “transgender” refers to a person whose sex assigned at birth (i.e. the sex assigned by a physician at birth, usually based on external genitalia) does not match their gender identity (i.e., one’s psychological sense of their gender). Some people who are transgender will experience “gender dysphoria,” which refers to psychological distress that results from an incongruence between one’s sex assigned at birth and one’s gender identity. Though gender dysphoria often begins in childhood, some people may not experience it until after puberty or much later
